Alexandra de Mersan

Bio: 

Alexandra de Mersan, anthropologist, is associate professor at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO, Paris). She is an associate member of the Centre Asie du Sud-Est (CASE-CNRS, Paris). She has a PhD in Social Anthropology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, Paris).

Research: 

Since her doctoral dissertation, untitled: “Ritual space and the Making of a Locality. Contribution to the Ethnography of the Arakanese Population of Contemporary Burma” (in French), she has been working on issues of territory and religion in Buddhist societies, mostly among Arakanese. Her research in Burma has also covered such topics as ritual, migration and socio-religious dynamics, ethnicity and nation-building.
