Jessica Achberger is a Senior Research Fellow at the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research (SAIPAR), in Lusaka, Zambia. She received her PhD in History from the University of Texas at Austin, where her dissertation focused on the political and economic development of Zambia, particularly in terms of its relationship with China. She is currently finalising a book project entitled, Forward with the Nation: Zambian Economic Development in the First Republic. This book, borne out of her PhD dissertation, combines research conducted in Zambia, China, the former Yugoslavia, Great Britain, and the United States to align Zambian foreign policy history with the history of its economic development. Her current work examines Chinese small and medium agricultural entrepreneurs in and around Lusaka, looking specifically at everyday interactions in different points in agricultural value networks.
