Sharad K. Soni

Bio: 

Sharad K. Soni is Associate Professor and Director of Area Studies Programme, Centre for Inner Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (India). He holds a PhD and an MPhil in Mongolian Studies from the same University. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Eurasian National University, Astana (2013 & 2014), Visiting Scholar at Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Ulaanbaatar (2011) and Visiting Faculty at Peking University, Beijing (2005-06). A recipient of ASIA Fellows Award (2005), Dr. Soni has published five books including Mongolia-Russia Relations: Kiakhta to Vladivostok, (2002); Mongolia-China Relations: Modern and Contemporary Times (2006) and a co-edited volume Mongolia in the 21st Century: Society, Culture and International Relations (2010), in addition to three monographs and over 80 articles/research papers/chapters on Mongolia, Central Asia, Inner Mongolia, Tibet as well as Buryatia and Tuva. His forthcoming publication is an edited volume Mongolia Today: Internal Changes and External Linkages being published by Pentagon Press, New Delhi (2015). He is also Joint Secretary of the Association of Asia Scholars (an Asia-wide network of ASF Alumni Fellows) and a Book Review Editor of Asian Ethnicity journal (Routledge). Currently, he is working on two Research Projects: (i) Inner Asian Identity: Transformation in the 21st Century, and (ii) Social and Political Transformation of Inner Mongolia in Modern and Contemporary Times.
