Jean Michaud (PhD Montréal 1995) is professor of social anthropology at Université Laval, in Canada.


He specializes in critical anthropology and the peoples of the Southeast Asian Massif.

French Catholic Missions on the Tonkin-Yunnan Frontier, 1880-1930 (Brill 2007), The A to Z of the People of the Southeast Asian Massif (Scarecrow Press 2009), coeditor of Moving Mountains: Ethnicity and Livelihoods in Highland China, Vietnam, and Laos (UBC Press 2011), and co-author with Sarah Turner and Christine Bonnin of Frontier Livelihoods: Hmong in the Sino-Vietnamese Borderlands (University of Washington Press 2015).
